RED GUM FOOD GROUP INC.
The Red Gum Food Group (RGFG) is a group of local people who are passionate about putting the Koondrook-Barham agricultural region on the food map and promoting the region as a unique and vital food production bowl. The group's committee became incorporated in June 2011 and is run entirely by volunteers.
The RGFG aims to build networks within the community based on local seasonal food, farmers and local producers to ensure the future viability and security of our food bowl. The group hosts the monthly Koondrook-Barham farmers market, Producers Picnic and Workshop Festival.
By supporting local producers at the monthly farmers market and holding events to showcase their produce, it is hoped that the future of farming in the area remains vibrant. By promoting our produce the group hopes that it will be recognised as being a vital part of the future stability of the local economy.
The Red Gum Food Group is an open group, and welcomes anyone who has a passion to work with people in the community to make good things happen. The Group meets every two months, all welcome.
Our stellar first event was the Regional World's Longest Lunch in 2011, as part of the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival's 20th Anniversary.

I want to congratulate the amazing team that put together Friday's lunch. The truly amazing dining experience was an absolute credit to every person who put in countless hours of behind the scenes work and dared to dream that such an event was possible.
As a local I am proud to say I was able to attend. To everyone I see down the street who didn't attend, I simply say "If the non locals go away thinking they probably wont come back, they need to have a long, hard look at themselves."
We may not have as much water or timber in our area any more, but we have you - The Red Gum Food Group. I know that with your passion and commitment this area will be on the map for good reasons. Congratulations on making Friday magical.
I thank you immensely and hope that you can now earn a little rest......until the next market!!!
